When I moved into my small home I decided I wanted it to be comfortable, functional, and aesthetically pleasing. Since I wrangle pixels in 3D space for a living I decided to build my abode in Blender so I could make decisions on my screen before pulling the trigger in the home. Alas, here are the building blocks of what has turned into a true home project of design, wood working, sewing, and of course... shopping.
The Beginning
First, I spent a bit of time ensuring the details of the home itself were dialed. Once they were, I started placing blocks to get a vibe for the feeling they gave the space.
First, I needed a design direction. That started by implementing accent lighting, which I knew I wanted, as well as playing with wood textures -- pictured here we have oak as the wood base and some fun colors with the green, oranges, and yellows.
Custom Couch? Really?
Of course, being a maker at heart, I wanted to design my own couch.
Why?
For some reason I like to make everything. I want to learn the ins and the outs. I want to produce something that people see and think it was bought from a fancy store with fancy salespeople that bring you fancy water while you shop for your fancy things... I think? TBD.
Credenza
Of course I thought it prudent to design my own credenza as well. I have many sculptures from my travels to China, Vietnam, Japan, Korea, and Asia as a whole, so I decided to scan one of them and bring it into the room for some realism I could actually understand.
Custom Nook Cabinet
This little home has a somewhat useless nook next to the kitchen. I suppose one could put a little table here to eat? Not me, though. I will be doing my eating at the island. So this nook is getting a much needed drawer cabinet for more storage, and a sweet little place to sit.
(I ended up making a padded top so sitting was more comfortable)
Colorways
I still need to finish the text for the rest of the sections.
But here are some more renders I did while messing around with more ideas that I had for the house.
